Mawe Lodges is a collection of luxury tented camps and lodges ideally located for exploring Northern Tanzania, with properties in Karatu, Tarangire, and the Serengeti.
Each property is carefully positioned close to key wildlife areas, offering guests an immersive luxury experience in the heart of the wilderness.
Who We Are
We are not a large hotel group, and we have never wanted to be.
Mawe Lodges is a Tanzanian-owned collection of five tented camps and lodges spread across the country’s northern safari circuit. Our head office is in Njiro, Arusha, and our properties sit in Karatu, Tarangire and the Serengeti — including the Ndutu plains in the south and Kogatende in the north.
Each of our camps holds around eight to ten tents. That size is deliberate. It keeps the camps quiet, keeps our guides close to the guests they are hosting, and keeps the footprint on the land small enough that the wilderness around you still feels like wilderness.

Mawe Lodges was among the first accommodations on the Tanzanian mainland to earn Travelife Accommodation Sustainability Certification. That certification is not a badge we bought — it covers how we buy, how we move, how we manage waste and energy, and how we treat the people who work with us.
In practice it looks like solar power, locally sourced materials, and procurement that keeps money circulating in the districts where our camps stand. We publish our sustainability policy, our annual sustainability report and our activity code of conduct openly, and we work as a conservation partner with TANAPA. Our commitment extends to education, health and community empowerment in the areas we call home.
Our Team
Tanzanian Guides, Tanzanian Knowledge
The people who take you out each morning grew up in this landscape. They know which drainage the cats favour after rain, when the herds usually reach a given plain, and how to read a track that most visitors would drive straight past.
Cultural experiences follow the same principle: when you visit the Hadzabe near Lake Eyasi or the Datoga craftspeople, you go with someone who has a genuine relationship there.
Alongside game drives, we arrange walking safaris, hot air balloon flights at sunrise, biking through the villages around Karatu, night drives in Tarangire, and specialist photographic trips with guides who understand light and patience as well as wildlife.

We took that as a design problem rather than a given. Our rates include accommodation, three meals a day, game drives with expert guides and vehicles, Wi-Fi and bar access, and we give a full written breakdown of what is not included before you book. No guesswork, no discoveries at check-out.
The result is a collection of camps that we believe offers something uncommon in the safari world: real quality, real access to wildlife, and a bill that makes sense.
