Mawe Lodges FAQs
Planning a stay or a safari with us? These answers cover our camps, meals, family stays and travel arrangements. Your quotation confirms the details for your dates and route.
Where are Mawe Lodges' camps and lodges?
We run five properties in northern Tanzania: Mawe Tented Camp in the central Serengeti, Gnu Ndutu Camp on the southern calving plains, Gnu Mara River Camp in the northern Serengeti, Baobab Tented Camp inside Tarangire National Park, and Karatu Tented Lodge near Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro highlands.
Are all the properties open year-round?
Mawe Tented Camp, Baobab Tented Camp and Karatu Tented Lodge open year-round. Gnu Ndutu Camp opens from late December to 31 March. Gnu Mara River Camp opens from 1 June to 15 November. Ask us to confirm availability for your travel dates.
What does full board include?
Our full-board accommodation rates include breakfast, lunch or a packed lunch, and dinner. Bar drinks, park and concession fees, transfers and activities are separate unless your quotation specifically includes them. Check the inclusions in your safari quote, since a complete package can cover more than an accommodation-only booking.
Can families stay at the camps and lodges?
Yes. We have family and triple accommodation, with arrangements varying by property. Karatu Tented Lodge welcomes children of all ages. Tell us your children’s ages and your group size so we can recommend rooms and suitable activities. At unfenced bush camps, children must stay with an adult, especially after dark.
Can you arrange travel by road and by air?
Yes. We arrange road safaris, fly-in safari itineraries and transfers to the relevant airstrips. We can also combine road travel with a flight. The best option depends on your route, dates and camp availability; send us those details for a quotation.
Do the tents have private bathrooms and hot showers?
Yes. Our tents and cottages have en-suite bathrooms with hot showers. Mawe Tented Camp and Baobab Tented Camp have flush toilets. Each property page explains its room types and facilities, so check the camp you are booking.
Is there Wi-Fi and somewhere to charge devices?
Our accommodation has charging points, and Wi-Fi is available in the main areas of the bush camps. Karatu Tented Lodge offers Wi-Fi throughout the property. Tell us about any essential equipment before you travel so we can advise for your particular camp.
Can I take a night game drive?
We arrange night game drives in Tarangire from Baobab Tented Camp, with advance booking for guides and permits. This activity costs extra unless included in your package. Night drives are not permitted inside Serengeti National Park.
Can you accommodate dietary requirements?
Tell us your dietary needs when you book, including any allergies. Our kitchens can cater for a range of requirements, but specific requests should be confirmed with the property in advance. At Karatu Tented Lodge, give at least one day’s notice for special requests.
What should I send when asking for a quote?
Send your travel dates, number of adults and children, children’s ages, preferred parks or camps, and whether you prefer road travel, flights or a combination. Mention any room or dietary requirements. We can then recommend a route and confirm availability and inclusions.
